Buller District Landscape and Natural Character Assessment Buller, 2011

This project involved assessment of the entire Buller District so as to identify its Outstanding Natural Features and Landscapes, together with identification of those parts of the District’s coastal environment and lake / river / wetland margins that display high levels of Natural Character. This District wide evaluation - including much of the Kahurangi and Paparoa National Parks, together with part of the Victoria Forest Park near Reefton - provided the ‘context’ for more focused assessment of the values associated with the Mokihinui River, near Seddonville. The entire project was carried out to assist the Environment Court with its review of, and determinations in relation to, Meridian Energy’s applications for a hydro-electric project on the Mokihinui River.

This project was undertaken on behalf of Meridian Energy Ltd.
